No one appreciates fine leather goods more than eques- trians. We splurge on quality boots and the buy best saddle we can. But when it comes to statement bags, it’s what’s inside that counts. Here are some things we’ve unearthed from the depths: Tubes of horse goo! Meds from Banamine to dewormer travel with us, lest they be exposed to less than optimal temperature swings at the barn.
Utility knife to open hay bales; remove when heading to the airport.
Baling twine. Self explanatory.
Copy of Coggins test.
Mane pulling comb. Not advised for human use; find out what your horse
might think on pg. 32 as we get to the bottom of major grooming myths.
A checkbook. This ancient artifact is still frequently used in the horse
world to pay major bills like board, vet and farrier. Don’t leave home without it, although you may not have a comma left in your account when all’s
said and done.
Mints. Fess up. You know you always grab a few for the horses when leaving
your favorite restaurant.
Horse people tend to err on the side of being overly prepared, and that’s a
good thing. When your horse comes in limping or bleeding, it’s definitely going
to be when the feed store is closed. You’ll be glad to have all the supplies on
hand to deal with it. Check out our vet’s comprehensive list of emergency kit
essentials on pg. 44, and stock up!
