To adult riders who have dreamed of barrel racing but fear they’re too ld to take it up now, there’s good news. “I don’t think you could ever be too old to learn barrel racing,” says Amy Laymon, a 53-year-old professional barrel racer. Of course, it will require some
solid basics under your belt, but if the need for speed
is in you, give barrel racing a shot, agrees 50-year-
old Marla Kichler, who started the sport at 46.
“It’s an adrenaline rush,” she says. “Right
before you go in, your heart is pounding,
and you’re thinking, ‘Why am I doing
this?’ Once you get in there and
make that run, it’s like,
‘Wow, let’s do it again!’”
