Beau is what the horse world
calls a plain brown wrapper.
Having a horse the color of
dirt certainly cuts down on my
grooming time, but I’m always
looking for a way to add that
extra sparkle. He may be plain,
but that doesn’t mean he can’t
look fabulous. As he finishes
shedding out, I’m polishing my
plans to get him looking and
feeling his best for spring.
In our makeover issue this month, we’ll show you the best ways to
get a super shiny coat (Hint: it may be hiding in your feed room.)
You’ll also discover the tricks the pros use to maintain a great tail
and create the perfect look in the show ring with extensions.
You’ll find that as your horse gets cleaner, you get
proportionately dirtier. The horsewoman’s manicure is
unavailable in salons just yet, but can be acquired naturally
at the barn. Fortunately, we’ve found beauty products just
for equestrians, and some that you can even share with your
horse, on page 16.
A major style shift worth acknowledging in the horse world
is barrel racer Fallon Taylor’s decision to trade in her hat for
a helmet. It’s not easy to go against the grain, but Fallon has
pulled it o; with her signature flair. Read the reasons for her
switch on pg. 18, and let us know what you think.
Makeovers aren’t just skin deep. There are plenty of
transformational moments just waiting to happen in your
riding life. But outside of those major lightbulb-moment
breakthroughs, change is usually slow and steady. It takes time
when you’re trying to create new habits for you or your horse.
Be patient, and keep at it.
