Lightly swing into the saddle. Be
careful not to bump your horse with
your leg as you swing it over his
back. Have him stand still next to the
mounting block for a few minutes.
Reward with your voice, dismount,
and put him away.
Repeat, mounting from the other
side. It’s a slow approach, but you
want your horse to learn mounting
block manners as a separate lesson
to avoid linking the mounting block
with riding anxieties.

Once your horse stands quietly after
you mount, ask him to walk off at a
relaxed pace. His new mounting block
manners should be well ingrained.
